If Vail Hockey Matters to you…
OUTCOME (updated 7/30/22): Status quo prevails per the Vail Daily- Yeti’s get the ice for another year…
Read this article from Ryan Sederquist at the Vail Daily “Eagle County Dreamworks Foundation hopes to launch new semi-pro hockey team in Vail”. The reporting is excellent, extensive, and tells you what you need to know. It doesn’t have handy links to take action - so we’ve provided them on this page.
Quick summary:
Eagle County Dreamworks Foundation needs ice time that only the Vail Recreation District can provide. That ice time is awarded contractually each year, and has been provided to the Yeti for nearly a decade. The current contract with the Yeti expires on August 31st.
Vail does not have enough ice time for two teams. VRD must choose. They must choose soon. There is no ‘win-win’; this is a choice.
The Vail Recreation District is meeting at 5:00pm on July 28th at the Vail Town Council Chamber to discuss this agenda - which includes a closed door executive session “for the purpose of a conference with the District’s legal counsel regarding specific legal questions pertaining to Dobson Ice Arena Use Agreements”. It is unclear based on the agenda, when the Eagle County Dreamworks presentation will occur, or if it will be open to the public.
A recording of the VRD meeting will be posted to HighFive here - but not live streamed according to their webpage. It’s unclear if VRD live Tweets the meeting but there Twitter handle is @Vailrecdistrict
